I have built over 500 decks through the years. Very profitable when cedar, treated, and red woods where popular.
In recent years with composite decking, profit tend to suffer. High material costs tend to result in a loss in labor.
Normal pricing for professional services and quality labor is double the material for labor. I am negotiable on labor.
I do more remodeling now due to larger projects and indoor work. Many different materials are produced today and various cost can differ.
Ball park pricing (close though)
Composite decking and rails, treated frame, permit and labor is about $20-$25/Sf, Cedar $16-$18/Sf, Treated lumber $12-$14/Sf
