Built in Deck Benches
Built in deck benches make ordinary decks extraordinary! A built in bench will make your deck much more inviting and useful for entertaining.
Youll find that the additional seating space offered by a built in deck bench will draw people out of the house and disperse them around your deck, maximizing its utility.
And well designed benches, which I will show you how to build yourself, can really make a deck special.
A
low level deck (less than 24) can have benches around the perimeter,
which aside from providing basic seating and a visual break, also act as
a bit of barrier in place of railing. A deck bench railing is what it becomes.
And is this case, benches are the perfect compliment to a great entertaining area with an accompanying hot tub. Get the party started!
Hot Tubs and Built in Benches
Benches in these settings can have a back or no back. A back set between 5 and 10 degrees will offer a greater degree of comfort than no back.
If you are intending to create an area where people will sit for longer periods, such as around a hot tub, consider adding a back to your bench.
In this case of the above deck, the deck was higher off the ground and a back made more sense from a safety point and because it was a gathering area around the hot tub.
Depending on your winter climate, you might also consider building benches that sit on the deck surface, not built into the deck framing so it can be removed and safely stored in the off season.
