Redwood Decks - Care and Maintenance Tips

Your editor of Ideas-For-Deck-Designs.com

Redwood decks are often featured in magazines and deck building books because of the exquisite natural beauty of redwood.

But because of the limited availability of redwood, it's an expensive material to use for decks.

What Makes Redwood Decks So Popular?

Redwood sammple grain

Redwood is known for its long straight grain and warm color, excellent decay resistance and ease of workability.

It is is one of the best, if not the very best natural materials for outdoor building projects.

It has become more scarce and expensive so is best used for areas of high visiblity such as decking, posts, railings, stairs or benches.

Care

Redwood decks, like cedar, require regular maintenance or they will not last as long as they should. Redwood is not immune to the ravages of constant moisture, freezing and thawing, wet and dry conditions.

So every spring and fall you should clean the deck and protect the deck surface. I have written and fairly thorough article on the various aspects of deck cleaning, particularly cleaning wood decks. So read it for further tips.
