Preparing Deck Framing - Blocking Between Joists

Properly Preparing Deck Framing Before Installing The Posts

Your editor of Ideas-For-Deck-Designs.com

You need a strong deck before you try to install your posts with the Titan Post Anchor because its only as strong as the weakest link. Preparing deck framing is an important part of the overall installation process.

Here is how you install 2x8 blocking between joists to make for a really sturdy connection.

Step 1

Measuring the gap between deck joists for 2x8 blocking

Measure the gap between joists directly below where you intend to locate a railing post.

Step 2

Cutting 2x8 to length for blocking between deck joists

Measure and cut 2x8 to length.

Step 3

Nailing 2x8 blocking together

Stack and nail 4 pieces of 2x8 together using 3" galvanized spiral nails or appropriate wood screws.

Step 4

2x8 Blocking between joist framing of deck

Snuggly fit the block of 2x8 perpendiculary and vertically on edge between the joist framing and against the rim joist of the deck. Use nails or screws to firmly secure the block in place.

Now your fasteners will go through the deck surface and into solid wood that is integrally connected to the deck framing for sturdy connection.
