Installing Railing Posts to Decks

Attaching The Railing Post to The Deck

Once the Titan Post Anchor is firmly secured into the post, installing railing posts to decks is quick and easy.

Step 1

Check if the post is level

Place the railing post into the correct position and use a level to see how straight it is.

Most decks are built to have a slight slope to encourage water run off.

Step 2

Use washers as shims to bring the deck railing posts back to level if necessary

If your deck has a noticeable slope for water runoff you may find that the post needs to be brought back to level by placing a galvanized washer under the lower side of the anchor.

One washer is usually enough. Don't be too worried if your post isn't perfectly level because it is usually pulled into level when you attach the railing sections between the posts.

Step 3

Screw in lag bolts or pan head wood screws into deck

Now that you have solid 2x8 blocking directly below the deck surface, drive lag bolts or #12 or #14 pan head wood screws through the deck surface into the blocking below.

This creates are very sturdy connection - even more so as more deck railing posts are installed and then connected into a single unitary run of railing.
