And congratulations to all the other entrants in this year's contest. There were some great decks to choose from. You could really see the creativity that each homeowner brought to their design. This makes it a challenge to pick a winner.

But Brian Roberts really pulled out all the stops. This deck just worked so perfectly for blending in perfectly with the home and the landscape. And that is ultimately what one should strive for in building a deck.

A deck is really nothing more than an extension of the living space into the outdoors. So in this deck there was great design for ease of foot traffic, good site location, and different areas for eating, sitting and a general sense of openness to the land around it.
