Wondering About Us? Here's My Story...

Your editor of Ideas-For-Deck-Designs.com

My name is Richard...I love to build - homes, decks, whatever. In fact, I think its always been that way. It started with tree houses and skateboard ramps as a kid and graduated to fences, decks and now homes as well.

Building is just something that is in my blood and gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to see other people's lives improved by my efforts. I have worked in many trades including roofing, framing, and landscaping to name a few.

My first leap into the business was as a 22 year old and still in university. It was a fencing company - nothing fancy but it did really well.

Ministers award

In fact, I received a Start Up Award from the Ministry of Skills and Development for Entrepreneurship. They flew me down to the Royal York Hotel in Toronto for the ceremony. It was quite a thrill.

One day as I was looking through a photo album of all the jobs I had done over the years it dawned on me just how much work there actually was. It was a wealth of knowledge.

And then I thought, "I want to share this with people who are building for the first time and need advice to help them out." I'll build a website and it will be fun. And people can get all these questions answered.

But I didn't have clue how to build a site. Nor did I know what "html" was. My parents have always told me to never be afraid to learn. So here we are today.

Its been 5 years now! This site has grown like crazy (over 6,000 unique visitors some days) and continues to grow. And I get thank you emails from people all over the world. It is so gratifying - and it's profitable too! More about that later.

And now that the site is developing its own inertia I have so many great ideas for building it - which you will see as time goes on. Friends are actually shocked to hear that I built this site on my own and that it ranks all over the free search engines for hundreds of different words - and that it earns money.

They ask me what I sell and are shocked to hear that I give away most of this information for free. But they don't understand the future of the Internet and why people use it. But I do.

There is no "Get Rich Quick" scheme here. Just principles of life that are "tried, tested and true". I literally pay it forward by satisfying my audience with what they need to know. It works 24 hours a day and I earn an honest income stream by sharing one of my passions with people.

And I can share with you the rest of the story if you are interested.

Thank you so much for visiting Ideas For Deck Designs! Please feel free to send comments, questions or feedback. I'm always interested in knowing if the site has helped people, or how it can be improved to offer even more help.

Sincerely,

Richard
