Perfect Deck

I also really like your deck. I am looking for ideas for smaller backyards too. What was the approximate cost for the material of your deck? it is really nice!

Foundation for Deck
by: Joe Delwo

This deck foundation was 24"x24" concrete patio stones and the deck blocks. Below that was some crushed stone.

There were a lot of them so it seems to have been able to handle the weight with no sinking or settling. I guess some people would say to use a 4 or 5' deep footing but this floats on the grade nicely. I think the broad 24" stones act like a snow shoe and spreads the weight nicely.

It made it through our winter just fine and we get freezing conditions.

I think it depends a lot on how many supports you have contacting the ground. The more and the wider and larger they are, the lighter your footprint on the soil and the less worry you have.

Your top deck is 1.5m above the ground and with only a couple support posts you might want to dig a hole for a pier but that depends on how big that deck is. Hope that helps. Anyone else?

Small Deck Foundation
by: Anonymous

I really like your deck, man! I have a small yard and am thinking of something similar...I like the different levels.

What kind of foundation did you use? My top deck will be 1.5 meters above ground and the remainder at above ground level. I was thinking about piling for the top deck but my father doesn't think we need them...any thoughts?
